What is the Kentucky Bourbon Trail®?

Bourbon and horse racing are how Kentucky is best known to the rest of the country. Both have a deep-rooted connection to the land and everyday life in Kentucky. Travelers and Kentuckians alike have heard of the “bourbon trail,” but most don’t realize it’s an official trail for bourbon lovers to visit the state’s signature distilleries.

The Kentucky Distillers’ Association (KDA) established the bourbon trail in 1999 and the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour® as a road trip experience. You can enjoy a few stops along the tour throughout the weekend or follow the trail, hitting all 46 stops back to back to back. It’s up to you — that’s part of the beauty of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail®! The trail is meant to be an experience of your own making.

There are 46 distilleries along the bourbon trail, and there’s no right way to experience them! Visit by tour region: Bluegrass, Central, Northern, and Western; or visit through Kentucky’s official gateway cities: Lexington, Louisville, Bardstown, and Northern Kentucky.
